I recently completed a new painting of the Oregon Iris (Iris tenax). It's an addition to the natural plant dye series and I'm excited to share it here! The Oregon iris is an iconic image of spring in these parts and a plant that I've long wanted to paint. Its roots produce grey and black dyes and the flowers are used to create fugitive (short-lasting) blue and purple dyes. I had so much fun adding details to the flowers and learning the dye applications of this beautiful wildflower. Happy spring!
