Basic Drawing is intended for the beginning drawer. Working with Watercolors is designed for beginning and intermediate painters. Both classes are held in the evenings and run for eight weeks. Sacred lotus! I recently completed this piece as a commission for two lovely clients. The piece is large at 22" x 30" and 100% genuine watercolor. This is the largest watercolor I've ever painted and its size brought on its own set of challenges; it was tough to hold the paper at an angle for flat washes, the paper really wanted to buckle, and wet paint had more room to roam. In the end though, I'm happy with the scale of the painting and may just have to try a few more at this size.

I'll be teaching Botanical Field Sketching and Botanical Illustration at Rootstalk, September 22-25 in Salem, Oregon. The festival is sponsored by Mountain Rose Herbs and is a benefit for Cascadia Wildlands. Both classes are open to all skill levels. I'll show examples of historic and contemporary botanical illustrations, discuss materials, offer professional tips, and get you started on your own plant drawings. There are heaps of other interesting classes and events being offered at Rootstalk. Come join us!

Anything with the tagline 'it's like a concert tour, but with sketchbooks' is going to get my attention. Enter The Sketchbook Project. This project allows anyone, anywhere to submit a sketchbook that will first go on a global tour and then become part of the permanent collection at the Brooklyn Art Library. Your sketchbook will be given a barcode, allowing your book to be checked out during the tour or later in Brooklyn. A library for sketchbooks. Excellent! To get more information on participating or for tour locations near you, visit the project's website.

Happy Summer! Here in Oregon it's the time of fresh berries, garden tomatoes, and blue skies. This season of harvest and plenty seems like a fitting time to share my new website. I'm excited to have a place to post new work, upcoming classes, and goings on. Welcome and I hope you'll visit often.
